Data for Civic Action:
Mapping Community-Driven Futures
Free STEM Virtual Workshop Series for St. Louis High School Students
Description:
This workshop series empowers St. Louis high school youth to become "designers for justice," equipping them to drive positive change in their communities through the integration of technology and social justice. Students will gain valuable skills and methods to think critically and creatively about the issues that matter most.
Participants will learn to harness the power of GIS (Geographic Information Systems), an innovative technology in data science that enables youth to map and analyze place-based challenges. Through interactive sessions and hands-on activities, students will explore topics of personal interest, understand their impact on St. Louis, and develop practical solutions.
The series includes an in-person activity day on April 19th, where students will apply the tools and skills they've acquired to tackle real challenges facing St. Louis. Community members and professionals are also invited to participate.
Virtual sessions will be held weekly on Tuesdays via Zoom from 6:00-7:30 PM CST. Register by February 17, 2025 using the link below. Students who attend at least 5 sessions will receive a certificate of completion.
